DD says it's slow going, but he is making progress on Ch 14, SA.
FV has been thinking about SOM, but hasn't yet got to writing. DD advises look at JC's stuff. Consider XInclude (may be overkill for our needs); we need to consider whether or not to cover pointing into non-XML data.
SB inquires about XInclude use. DD describes what SB has decided to call either a SOT (stand-off-tree) or SOH (stand-off-hierarchy). FV points out earlier we had thought about using global attrs instead of SOT-leaf elements. DD refers us to 2002-10-04 message by JC.
In general it is a good idea to post drafts, questions, partially written documents, etc., to the list earlier rather than wait until it's in better shape and post later..
JH & SB request at least a pointer to a tutorial on XPointer, if not validation tool. FV has a java & javascript implementation of a validator of the 2002-09-21 version of XPointer.
DD points out that this is item G, assigned to FV. Discusses NI's assignment.

W3C update: Scheme stuff going through; XPointer still in draft, but will go out soon; namespace declaration for a new scheme DD thinks is problematic: only way to declare an XPointer scheme is put an entire xml:ns with entire URI in every XPointer.
We may have to consider allowing a namespace prefix to an XPointer-like value.
