        <body>
            <p> This version of the TEI introduces new features and resolves a number of issues
                raised by the TEI community. As always, the majority of these changes and
                corrections are a consequence of feature requests or bugs reported by the TEI
                community, using the SourceForge tracking system. If you find something you think
                needs to change in the TEI Guidelines, schemas, tools, or website, please submit a
                ticket a <ref target="http://tei.sf.net/">http://tei.sf.net/</ref> for
                consideration.</p>
            <p> Since the last release (16 June 2012), the Council has closed at least 82 tickets
                entered in the SourceForge tracking system, from 25 different members of the TEI
                community (10 more than in the previous release!). Full details may be found at <ref target="http://tei.sf.net/">http://tei.sf.net/</ref> and an <ref target="https://sourceforge.net/search/index.php?words=&amp;sort=artifact_id&amp;sortdir=desc&amp;offset=0&amp;group_id=106328&amp;type_of_search=artifact&amp;last_update_date_start=2012-06-16&amp;last_update_date_end=2012-10-25&amp;status_id%5B%5D=2"> active list sorted by ticket number is also available</ref>. Ticket numbers
                are also referenced in the subversion ChangeLog, as usual, which records around 490
                commits during this period. </p>

                <head>Schema Changes</head>
                <p> Some of the important or interesting schema-related changes include: </p>
                <list>
                    <item> After much discussion, the datatype and usage of the global attribute
                        @rend was clarified. In response to <ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3519866&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3519866</ref>, a new global @style attribute was created to allow local
                        description of the source document's appearance using a formal style
                        definition language such as CSS </item>
                    <item> Increasingly, the Technical Council is attempting to provide more
                        consistent Schematron constraints for additional validation (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3557497&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3557497</ref>, <ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3548772&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3548772</ref>, <ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3064757&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3064757</ref>) </item>
                    <item> A new <gi>listApp</gi> element was added, along with other improvements
                        for recording critical apparatus (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3497356&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3497356</ref>) </item>
                    <item> The <name type="class">model.glossLike</name> class was subdivided, to ensure that only members
                        such as <gi>desc</gi>, <gi>precision</gi>, or <gi>equiv</gi> appear in
                        the content of appropriate elements. (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3565137&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3565137</ref>) </item>
                    <item> The @scheme attribute on <gi>keywords</gi> was made optional (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3554050&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3554050</ref>) </item>
                    <item> A new <name type="class">att.milestoneUnit</name> class was created to ensure consistency in use of
                        @unit (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3537452&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3537452</ref>) </item>
                    <item> Tighter restrictions were imposed on the content model of <gi>gi</gi> and
                        <gi>att</gi> (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3535672&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3535672</ref>) </item>
                    <item> The content model of <gi>table</gi> was changed to allow <name type="class">model.divBottom</name>
                        (footers, etc.) at the bottom (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3531957&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3531957</ref>) </item>
                    <item> The <gi>idno</gi> element is now allowed inside <gi>person</gi> and
                        <gi>place</gi> (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3440977&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3440977</ref>) </item>
                    <item> The <gi>lg</gi> element, after much debate, is now allowed inside
                        <gi>p</gi> (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062&amp;aid=3532022">3532022</ref>) </item>
                    <item> In the content model of <gi>editionStmt</gi>, explicit reference to
                        <gi>respStmt</gi> has been replaced with <name type="class">model.respLike</name> for greater
                        flexibility (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062&amp;aid=3439587">3439587</ref>) </item>
                    <item><gi>biblStruct</gi> can now be used for patent citations: the
                        <gi>monogr</gi> element now allows an <gi>authority</gi> and an <gi>idno</gi>
                        but no <gi>title</gi>, and <gi>imprint</gi> now allows <gi>classCode</gi> and
                        <gi>classRef</gi>. (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&amp;aid=3513147&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3513147</ref>)</item>

                <head> Textual Changes </head>

                <head> Environment Changes </head>
                <p> The TEI Technical Council continually strives to improve the underlying
                    infrastructure used to edit, store, test, and publish the outputs it creates.
                    During this release cycle some of these infrastructure changes include: </p>
                <list rend="bulleted">
                    <item> The TEI source code now references its component parts by means of
                        XInclude rather than by using system entities (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3547869&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644065">3547869</ref>) </item>
                    <item> TEI ODD processing now supports local modification of classes, so an
                        element can claim membership of an attribute class (e.g. <name type="class">att.typed</name>) while
                        still redefining an element provided by the class locally (e.g. the @type
                        attribute's value list) </item>
                    <item> The HTML generated from the Guidelines now uses relative links to make
                        browsing them in the Jenkins continuous integration servers easier (<ref target="https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&amp;aid=3556966&amp;group_id=106328&amp;atid=644062">3556966</ref>) </item>
                    <item> Various improvements to ODD processing, improvements to the TEI build
                        infrastructure, especially in the testing framework and Schematron
                        constraints </item>
                    <item> The marking of TEI P4 as 'deprecated' in oxygen packages </item>
                    <item> Improvements to the handling of exemplars during the build process </item>
                    <item> Provision of additional outputs (e.g. JSON and JSONP see
                        release/xml/tei/odd/) as default release items </item>
                    <item> Many changes have been made to the TEI-C Stylesheet library to support
                        these changes, fix reported bugs, and provide new features </item>
                </list>
            </div>
            <div>
                <head>New release of TEI Lite</head>
                <p>An updated version of the ever-popular TEI Lite tutorial has been included with
                    this release in the Exemplars directory. This new version has been updated to
                    take advantage of the many new features introduced in the TEI since its first
                    appearance in 1996, but has not changed in its original design goal, of aiming
                    to specify the 50 or so TEI elements likely to be useful to 90% of TEI projects.
                    There are no plans to update this tutorial, but we will continue to
                    check that it remains compatible with future releases.</p>
