Performance Texts Work Group Objectives and Deadlines Document Number: TEI TR11P1 Draft August 2, 1991 (16:15:27) 1 OBJECTIVES 1. Reformulate this list of objectives. 2. Summarize and report on the structural and formal features most essential to the encoding of performance texts of all kinds. Fea- tures discussed should include but need not be limited to formal aspects such as speech, song and stage directions and the relation between the written transcript and stage performance. 3. Consider and report on a representative range of purely interpre- tive characteristics such as metaphor, rhetorical tropes etc. which have been found of general usefulness in the literature. 4. Consider and report on ways of representing narrative structures within performed texts 5. Draft modifications to the current draft Guidelines showing how existing tags may be appropriately used to encode such features (or a representative subset of them). 6. Draft additional sections for the Guidelines defining whatever additional tags and attributes are necessary for the encoding of such features, wherever tags defined in the current draft do not suffice. 7. Liaise closely with other workgroups working in related areas, notably TR10 (verse), TR12 (prose) and AI2 (spoken texts). 2 ADMINISTRATIVE Work group reports to Committee for Text Representation. Head of the work group is Elli Mylonas. Other proposed members are John Lavagnino and Rosanne Potter. Funding is authorized for one meeting. 3 DEADLINES Any reformulation of objectives should be made before 1 September 1991. Final report must be received by 31 October 1991.
